unsurprisingly, that didn’t work

Negative. Again. Though I think I took it ok this time (as in, I did not burst into tears). And of course I had coffee — real, proper, caffeinated coffee — today.

There was something weird about this cycle though. Last week, I noticed that I lost much less hair when showering and combing than usual. And I had cramps — not bad, but of increasing strength over the week. Until Friday evening, when they suddenly stopped without any apparent reason (that would be 9dpo, I think). From Saturday on much more hair loss (back to normal really — I don’t know if it’s actually a lot, but I have dark and thick hair so it’s very obvious) and no more cramps. Could this have been a very early miscarriage? Or am I over-interpreting my symptoms? I only tested today, didn’t even think about it on Saturday, so I have no idea if there would have been any hcg to detect… I’ve had one sort of similar experience with symptoms until 9dpo, but again, I have no idea if I was pregnant then, or just symptom-crazy. If anyone has experienced something similar, or more ideas on how to interpret this (and what to do), please share.

  1. I wish I could help you, when I had early m/c, it showed up on an hpt. Also, I never had cramps in pregnancy too much, I think once at 13dpo, very light. I usually get them when i am not pregnant. But none of mine lasted, so who knows? Sorry for the BFN. :(

  2. Hello!
I have had suspicions like that before – and apparently, chemicals (horrible name) are more frequent than we know, but I’ve gone into a sort of state of denial about it – I’d rather not know! It depends though, it might be medically useful information.
Sorry for the negative. So demoralising.

  3. Oh, so sorry! :-( It doesn’t get any easier, does it? I don’t have any good advice about the cramping but I see there are some other folks who know a little more than me commenting above. Hang in there!

  4. Thanks all for your kind comments.

@nobabyruth, it was a test — I don’t bleed through progesterone for some reason, so I take it until ~13dpo and then test to see if I can stop or if I may continue (it might be early, true, but all my symptoms from last week have vanished, too).

@twangy, I understand the denial… I’d kind of like to know if there is anything that can be done about it. If it’s unavoidable I’ll try to ignore the symptoms next time, too.

  5. I’m sorry:( I think it COULD be an early miscarriage – have you talked about this with your doc? Next time, it would be good to draw bloods, to figure out what’s going on. I have an autoimmune thing and so, periodically, my hair falls out. I can tell you that the last time I was pregnant it stopped falling out quite abruptly. Hugs.

  6. Aaarg. So sorry. I hate it when our bodies give us extra reason to hope. or just in general behave confusingly. I have to admit one of the reasons I’m an early tester is that I want to catch any chemicals that might be happening. That and I can’t wait.

  7. I am sorry to hear that. However much you think you are Ok it is still heart wrenching. I don’t know if it will help but I’d heard hair loss is a sign of an illness or problem about six weeks previously rather than an issue you are having at that actual moment.

  8. Oh I’m so sorry to hear this. Sorry I don’t know what the symptoms could mean, but just wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you. Kim
