2ww tcc etc
A short glossary — I’ll be adding terms as the become relevant in this blog.
2ww: two week wait — the time between ovulation and either CD1 or a BFP.
BFN: big f*ing negative [pregnancy test]
BFP: big f*ing positive [pregnancy test]
CD1: 1st day of a new cycle, i.e., 1st day of the period. A sad day around here, usually.
dpo: days post ovulation — the countdown (-up, actually) until you can do a pregnancy test. Unless CD1 comes before.
endo: endometriosis — a disease where tissue that’s supposed to grow inside the uterus grows elsewhere, bleeding along with your usual cycle; can be very painful and hamper with fertility (though why and how is not necessarily clear)
EPO: evening primrose oil, contains essential fatty acids, supposedly good for fertility, against endometriosis and generally anti-inflammatory — to be taken only in the follicular phase of the cycle
EWCM: egg-white cervical mucus — fertility indicator, as sperm can swim in this on their way up towards the egg
HSG: Hysterosalpingogram, to check the shape of the uterus and if the tubes are clear
lap: laparoscopy (minimally-invasive surgery)
LPD: luteal phase defect — too few days between ovulation and the period, not enough to allow for implantation. Often attributed to progesterone deficiency.
O: ovulation
SA: semen analysis
tcc: trying to conceive
u/s: ultrasound
